Resuming
Transfers
When a transfer is
broken, users may reconnect and resume at the point where the
transfer terminated. Simply try transferring the file again.
When CuteFTP sees that you are replacing an existing file it
will ask to "Resume, Overwrite, or Skip". Choose 'Overwrite'
if you are replacing the file, choose 'Resume' to complete a
broken transfer, or choose 'Skip' to cancel the operation.
Note: Resuming file transfers is a site-specific operation.
Refer to the log window at the beginning of a session for a
'Status Command' stating; "This site can (or cannot) resume
broken downloads".
Firewall
and Proxy Server Configuration
A firewall or proxy
server is a safeguard utilized by many Local Area Networks (LANs)
or Wide Area Networks (WANs) to protect the network from unauthorized
access. If you are using CuteFTP on a LAN or WAN, you might
experience some problems caused by the network settings. If
you are not on a LAN or WAN, check with your ISP about the existence
of a firewall. When first using CuteFTP, use the default firewall
settings and try connecting to several of the predefined sites
in the 'Site Manager'. If every site tried gives the message
"can't connect" or "can't login, still trying," then you probably
need to configure the firewall settings. If your LAN or WAN
supports FTP Proxy protocol, you will need the following information:
- IP address for your firewall host
- Port number for the FTP proxy server
- User name and password
Enter this information in the respective fields and select the
'USER user@site' radio button and the 'Enable Firewall Access'
box and try connecting to a site. If you are still having problems,
try using the other options ('OPEN Site', etc). The 'PASV Mode'
radio button specifies that CuteFTP will initiate all connections
and the server will wait for requests, avoiding conflicts with
the security system. Only use this feature when experiencing
problems with the default settings.
Using
Paste URL and Clipboard Monitoring
FTP/Paste
URL
You can paste a URL (universal resource locator) into CuteFTP
by using this function.
- From any Windows application, highlight
the URL. The URL may be general (ftp://www.cuteftp.com)
or specific (ftp://www.cuteftp.com/pub/cuteftp/cute2632.exe).
- Copy the URL to the clipboard by pressing Ctrl+C.
- Return to CuteFTP and select
'File/Paste URL' from the Menu
Bar.
- Press the Ctrl+V (paste) keys,
then choose OK.
- CuteFTP will parse the URL and start downloading the file.
Monitor Clipboard
This field, located under 'Edit/Settings/Advanced',
activates CuteFTP's URL parsing feature. Anytime an FTP URL
is copied into the Windows Clipboard, CuteFTP will automatically
connect to the site or begin downloading the target file. This
feature assumes an anonymous login.
Note: The monitor clipboard function does not currently
support redirected URLs.
